David McDowell  lives and works at Lacock Pottery making a range of work, including stoneware bowls, dishes and plates.

He works in a painterly way, applying coloured glazes and oxides to his wheel-thrown or moulded clay forms. His designs vary from simply glazed pieces, to abstract patterns. But his signature decoration is his still life paintings of natural forms such as pears, artichokes and other natural forms. After firing his work to very high temperatures in his kiln on-site, the finished results are amazingly beautiful, unique and useable.

David studied ceramics at the heart of the British ceramics industry at Stoke-on-Trent School of Art. After gaining a First Class Honours degree there he moved to the Wiltshire and taught ceramics to both adults and children at Secondary School level and through evening classes and his residential courses in the 80s and 90s.

David's work is only available at the Gallery at Lacock Pottery.
